Dar es Salaam. The 2025 Law Week, scheduled from January 25 to February 3, will adopt a new community-centered approach, focusing on delivering legal education directly to people in their homes, businesses, and schools.
The Chief Justice of Tanzania, Prof. Ibrahim Juma, announced the initiative in Dar es Salaam, emphasizing the need to make legal education more accessible. He highlighted that the program’s design considers the daily struggles of citizens who may not have time to attend legal education events at designated venues.
“Since Law Week occurs on weekdays when most people are busy earning a living, this year we will meet them where they are. We will visit residential areas and public spaces,” Prof. Juma said.
To achieve this, mobile units equipped with legal education resources will travel to different community hubs. The initiative will also include outreach programs in primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges, aiming to engage students and educators in understanding legal rights and judicial processes.
“Our goal is to expand public access to legal education. We will visit areas with high foot traffic and educational institutions to reach as many people as possible,” the Chief Justice added.
The week-long program will focus on raising public awareness about legal rights, the judiciary’s role, and how citizens can seek justice. The event will culminate in a grand finale on February 3, 2025, featuring exhibitions, discussions, and interactive sessions addressing common legal concerns.
This year’s Law Week is an innovative step in ensuring more Tanzanians, regardless of their location, gain the legal knowledge they need to protect their rights and better understand the country’s judicial system.
